Engineering

Engineering the entire rotating interface

Slip Ring USA combines U.S.-based application support with global engineering and manufacturing capabilities. We help define the electrical, signal, mechanical, environmental, and validation requirements before a design is released.

Core capabilities

More than power and basic signals

High-speed data through rotation

Engineering support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and 3.0, industrial Ethernet, HD video, serial communications, and fieldbus protocols. Shielding, impedance, connectors, and signal integrity are reviewed as part of the design.

Integrated slip rings

Power, general signals, Ethernet, RF, fiber optics, encoders, gas, vacuum, and liquid passages can be combined into one rotating interface. Each transmission domain is qualified separately before the complete assembly is reviewed.

High-power electrical transfer

Electrical designs can range from low-level circuits to high-current architectures. Rated and peak loads, contact systems, thermal management, temperature monitoring, arc risk, and service access are reviewed together.

Mechanical packaging

The mechanical design can accommodate compact envelopes, center openings, short axial spaces, and large multi-module structures. Mounting, orientation, speed, cable routing, and service access are reviewed together.

Harsh-environment design

Housing, sealing, and materials can be reviewed for actual temperature, humidity, water and dust exposure, salt spray, vibration, shock, and outdoor or marine service. Suitability is confirmed for the complete configuration.

Contact engineering

Contact-system options are evaluated against current density, signal type, rotational speed, electrical noise, maintenance, and required operating life. Final materials and architecture depend on the application.

Data and signal engineering

Specify the protocol, not just “signal”

Data rate, impedance, shielding, connector, cable length, and acceptable loss all affect the rotating interface. Tell us the exact protocol and performance target so we can engineer the complete channel.

Validation

Testing built around the risk

The test plan is matched to the final configuration and the application’s success criteria. Requested reports, third-party testing, and project-specific acceptance limits are identified during review and confirmed before production.

Electrical checks

Insulation resistance, dielectric withstand, contact performance, grounding, and signal-specific requirements.

Mechanical checks

Critical dimensions, bore and envelope, mounting interfaces, torque, orientation, and cable or connector exits.

Configuration-specific testing

High-power electrical builds can include individual brush-pressure checks, controlled brush run-in, and temperature-rise testing. Environmental or third-party testing can be defined when the project requires it.

Development process

From requirements to production release

  1. 01

    Capture the application

We document every transfer path, load, protocol, pressure, speed, envelope, environment, and lifecycle requirement.

  2. 02

    Define the architecture

We identify the right standard platform or develop an integrated configuration around the machine.

  3. 03

    Review and qualify

Electrical, mechanical, signal, thermal, sealing, and installation risks are reviewed before release.

  4. 04

    Prototype and refine

Where appropriate, a sample build is validated and revisions are controlled before production.
